Reviews Sanjay Leela Bhansali has started where he had left in Hum Dil De chuke Sanam. He is the man who had the guts and the confidence to make a film on Sarat chandra Chattopadhyay's Novel Devdas.Which had already been filmed earlier. The direction of the movie is immaculate. As the drink-sodden Devdas, Shah Rukh has given his career’s best shot and immortalised the tragic story of the doomed lover. The king Khan strikes back with ‘Devdas’. Madhuri and Aishwarya, besides looking gorgeous, fit the skin of the characters to the hilt. One can feel the pain of Paro and Chandramukhi being evoked through their characters. As for the production, no effort has been spared right from the first shot of the luxurious haveli belonging to Devdas to Paro’s room to Chandramukhi’s kotha. From the first scene to the last, visually ‘Devdas’ is a treat to the eyes. The acting of the main stars Shahrukh khan ,Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit is absolute. They have fitted in the roles like a water is poured in the Jug or any other tumbler.
This does not mean that Shahrukh khan lacked anything to express. In fact he should be thankful to the makers who have given him a chance to emote at his best. This is easily his most memorable performance till date on which he can feel a lot of self respect and pride forever. The songs are meaningful and fit in the story.Mrs kiran anupam kher has also done well in a short role.Jackie shroff brings lighter moments in the film though this was a role best suited fot Annu kapoor. However he had done well and the audience loved the dialogues of both of them Mrs Kiran anupam kher and Jackie shroff. Those who like fast movies may find it a little slow but looking to the subject in which love and sadness is the only are which is concentrated this has turned out to be very tightly scripted and picturised and should not be treated as slow. You cannot compare eternal love story and it's honest picturisation with that of a thriller like Humraaz.
The movie makes a mark on the audience and in fact after reaching home they feel that there is much more to be seen and remembered in the same movie.Which can be seen Once for Direction.Once for dialogues,Once for performances ,Once for sets,Once for technical fineness,Once for music and songs and ....... Long live sanjay leela bhansali who has though late but has left many others behind. |
